President Caught Kissing A Sturgeon, Then Dumps It?

Exotic Animal Newsflash:
On Friday, Russian president, Vladimir Putin, kissed a sturgeon at a fish farm, and then lovingly dropped it into the Caspian Sea.
Okay, he didn’t kiss it on the lips, but on the head, and he wore white gloves…
The Russians are desperately trying to regenerate the endangered sturgeon population in the Caspian Sea are. These sturgeon are prized for their tiny, black eggs that are a delicacy for caviar lovers.

Sturgeon Are Endangered Fish:
Sturgeon are found in European, Asian and North American waters. They stick to the Northern hemisphere and are not found in any tropical waters.
When sturgeon migrate to freshwater lakes and rivers, and caught in Russia and North America, their flesh is dried, smoked or salted, while the large ovaries are prepared for caviar. This is the exact reason why it is so endangered: overfishing, water pollution and poaching.

Family: Acipenseridae
Genus: Acipenser
There are 26 species of sturgeon, too numerous to mention in this post.
What Can I Do To Help?
1. Be an animal advocate.
2. Support local and worldwide wildlife protection agencies.
3. Only purchase and eat sturgeon and sturgeon products that were fished legally and in an environmentally friendly way.
I had no idea that the sturgeon was an endangered fish. It makes sense though that it could be over-fished. Needless to say, I enjoyed today’s installment of Exotic Animal Lover and learned so much about this fish. Until next time…
