Wow…That’s right…that’s what I said…
Well, it’s true, and it’s not…
At the Georgia Aquarium, the female sea dragon laid eggs and attached them to the males tail. He will carry the eggs until they hatch, sometime in mid-July.
Right now the proud daddy carries about 70 fertilized eggs on his tail now, looking like small red grapes.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature has deemed this fish as endangered, mostly due to habitat destruction because of increased Australian population and pollution. What else is new?
The survival rate in the wild of the offspring is very low, but in captivity it is around 60%. This is promising indeed for this endangered species.
