Aggressive Fish Need Friends Too…

August 28, 2008 by Kimberly · 1 Comment

Kalypso, my Diva red capped oranda goldfish, is slightly aggressive.

I initially had a calico telescope goldfish, named Klyde, and he was beautiful, sweet and very responsive. So, I felt he needed a friend.

Therefore, I marched myself into the pet store and chose a beautiful fish, that looked like a girl, that could be Klyde’s girlfriend.

Within 5 minutes of being in the bowl with Klyde, Kalypso started nipping his tail. Not good…She took quite a chunk, and I had to quickly remove Klyde to his own tank again.

Actually, Klyde went downhill from that point on…He got ick and cotton on him…He was very sick after he was “attacked”, so I had to treat him for his ailments. I woke up one morning, and he was gone.

Honestly, I’ve never been so upset about losing a fish. He was a real sweetheart and really enjoyed me too…

Well, I have little Ms. Diva still and she is a beautiful fish with an attitude, but is still VERY responsive to me.

Although I know she is very aggressive, I still wanted her to have a friend, so instead of a live version, I went into the Read more

Kalypso – My Diva Red Cap Oranda Goldfish

August 22, 2008 by Kimberly · 3 Comments

Diva MousepadMy fish is a Diva!

I’m not kidding either…

Let me tell you a story about what just happened in the past few days…

It has been an extremely busy week, and I didn’t feel like cleaning out Kalypso’s 10 gallon fish bowl. She has 2 filters with bubbles and a floaty fish toy that she loves snuggling and pushing around the bowl.

Kalypso has grown quite a bit in size since I got her in the spring. I’d say she’s more than doubled in size. So, I got this new 10 gallon bowl just for her as an upgrade from her 5 gallon bowl. A big difference.

Now, when I didn’t feel like cleaning out all of her home the other night, I brought out her 5 gallon bowl just for the night (I call it her condominium), so I could clean the 10 gallon in the morning. It was already late at night, mind you.

She had a pretty plant new glass beads at the bottom and fresh water, and she was sitting right next to my computer, so that she could see me!

The next morning, I sat down to check my email and do about 30 minutes of work. Kalypso was fine…Swimming around, happy to see me, etc.

However, I was sitting there no longer than 10 minutes, and all of a sudden, she Read more

Bigfoot in a Freezer?

August 16, 2008 by Kimberly · 1 Comment

Exotic Animal Newsflash:

If you haven’t already heard, there is a brand spankin’ new Bigfoot sighting!

Two Georgia trackers claim they found the corpse of the notoriously mysterious Bigfoot in the northern woods and brought it home to stash it in a freezer for the past month.

They have provided a photo of the beast in their freezer and apparently, have turned over DNA to researchers to prove that it is indeed the real bigfoot!

As of yet, the trackers have not revealed much, except the photo and 3 DNA samples. So far, one sample was clearly human, one was of an opossum, and one could not be identified due to technical difficulties. More tests will be underway immediately.

With all of the justified skepticism, the pair of men have changed their story significantly 3 times, apparently, but they still stick to the story that Bigfoot is in their freezer.

These newly titled Bigfoot trackers have started offering weekend Bigfoot search expeditions in the Northern Woods of Georgia for $499.00.

Red Tide Algae Kills Marine Animals on St. Lawrence Seaway System

August 11, 2008 by Kimberly · 2 Comments

Exotic Animal Newsflash:

I watched on TV tonight that the deadly “Red Tide” algae is toxic and killing animals of all sorts in the St. Lawrence River system in Canada.

Beluga Head Keepsake BoxBelugas, birds, porpoises, fish, mollusks…you name it, it’s affected.

It moves up the food chain, and in the case of whales, like belugas, they feel it affects their brain and makes them slower and confused, making them more likely to collide with boats.

The red tide algae are common in this area, but usually wash away by this point of the year, whereas this year, it is lingering too long!

Why?

Well, it is believed that it’s lingering due to the serious rain we’ve been having in this region.

What’s Being Done?

Researchers are being diligent to figure out all of the particulars, and there has been a ban on all fishing of mollusks for consumption by humans to ensure local residents are not affected by the red tide toxicity!

Sheesh! What a shame!

Is Colloidal Silver an Option for Your Pets?

August 5, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment

With so many supplements out on the market, it’s hard to decipher which are good, which are bad, and which ones even make any difference at all.

Colloidal silver is a supplement that I’ve been taking for years, since university in fact. I am unsure if this is what keeps me healthy, or if it’s a combination of the all the healthy things I do with my lifestyle, but I am very very rarely ever sick.

Colloidal silver touts itself to relieve spinal pain, osteoporosis, arthritis, nerves & stress, blood circulatory cleanser, eyes, conjunctivitis, ears (wash ear twice/day), canker, sinus, muscle & joints, bones & ligaments, colds, allergens, pollution, and skin problems.

It will also kill off all germs, viruses, bacteria, allergens & pathogens. By putting it in your pets water bowl, the silver ions will hunt down the invaders and deprive them of oxygen, killing them. Dose 1 teaspoon per cup of water daily for 10 days.

Colloidal silver can be administered orally, in the eyes (for eye allergies, conjunctivitis, keratitis, etc. – Spray or drop 3 times daily in affected eye. Give orally as well 3 times daily for a minimum of 3 days or longer until condition has cleared up.), in the nose (for sinusitis), sprayed on wounds, it doesn’t sting or burn, via IV, Subcue, in the ears, and nebulized into the lungs.

To nebulize, put into a nebulizer cup. Use an ultrasonic or micro air nebulizer and nebulize pet, person, or animal a minimum of 3 times daily for at least 15 to 20 minutes each time, longer if possible for active asthma, bronchial, pneumonia, or respiratory anthrax symptoms. Give orally 4 times daily as well.

Apparently, because of the physiological differences of warm blooded mammals and those of fish, amphibians and reptiles; it is necessary to Read more
