No Response to My Petcetera Complaint Letter

November 26, 2008 by Kimberly · 5 Comments

On October 28th, 2008, I sent a complaint letter to Petcetera and have since received absolutely NO response to it!

Check it out here:

“I’d like to comment about my “service” today at the N*&^%$# F@#$% [my city] location of Petcetera, of which I am a very loyal customer, that was inexcusable. (I have 5 dogs, 1 hedgehog (from a competitor’s store), 4 goldfish and 1 pleco – which I purchased at this Petcetera, and the aquarium). Honestly, I’m in the store a few times per week and almost always make a purchase upon visiting the store.

Last night, I went into the store to look at the new shipment of fish they receive every Thursday to decide upon any that I liked, and to return 1 item.

Art Poster Print - Country Comp: the Nap - Artist: Unknown - Poster Size: 20 X 16 inchesI was helped by an EXTREMELY helpful and sweet cashier and a Fabulous on-duty manager (I believe), but am unsure of their names. The manager assisted me in the fish area and we got to talking about the pets I have at home, one of which is a hedgehog.

She was excited to hear that I am a hedgehog enthusiast and have had them over the past 10 yrs. She was excited because at that location, they’ve had a hedgehog for over 2 months, who no one ever wants to look at.

I was happy to hear about it because it is difficult to Read more

You Say Bearcat – I Say Binturong

November 24, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment

binturong-pdThe Binturong is also called the Palawan Bearcat, Asian Bearcat, Bearcat.

However, it’s neither a bear nor a cat! LOL…It just resembles both of those animals. To me, it looks like a large raccoon species.

It, too, is an arboreal species that is nocturnal – instead of sleeping in a nest of sorts, it simply sleeps on branches of rainforests in Asia, India & Indonesia.

Although it is classified as a carnivore, it is omnivorous! It eats mostly fruit, but has been known to dabble in eating eggs, small animals like rodents and birds, shoots and leaves.

Binturong are known for their happy chuckling sounds and high-pitched wails when annoyed. It also communicates using it’s tail and scent gland.

It has a prehensile tail, meaning it works as a 5th limb or hand. Bearcats are the size of a small dog and has a coat that is thick, coarse and black.

Conservation Status:
The Binturong is considered to be a Read more

harpyeagle-pdScientific Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Falconiformes or
Accipitriformes
Family: Accipitridae
Genus: Harpia
Species: H. harpyja

The Harpy Eagle is a carnivorous raptor. In fact, it’s the largest and most powerful one found in the Americas.

This eagle particular inhabits tropical lowland forests, where it stays in the upper canopy, presumably for a better viewpoint for prey.

Males and females having the same coloration, they are slate black on the back and back of wings, and white underneath including their bellies. Their head is a pale gray color.

Although the same in color, males are almost half the size of the female.

They boast talons up to 5 inches long – WOW! Their wingspan can reach up to 6′ Read more

New Zealand has Amazing Animals

November 20, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment

I have always wanted to visit New Zealand…

Not only for it’s picturesque landscapes, mountains, green valleys, and fantastic ocean views, but why else?…

For it’s amazing fauna!

As you know, I love animals, and where else would I go in New Zealand, but where the cool animals are!

I go where the animals live…That’s what I want to see most when I travel.

New Zealand has so many unique animals that are native to this country and found nowhere else on the planet…similar to how Australia has their unique species found no other place either.

Well, NZ is the seabird capital of the world, first of all and boasts two native flightless birds. One of them is the only flightless parrot, the kakapo, which is critically endangered. The other is the kiwi, which just happens to have nostrils at the end of it’s beak.

The only native land mammals in New Zealand are bats: the long-tailed bat and the short-tailed bat.

TuataraWhat else? Well, the tuatara is a lizard only found in New Zealand…How cool is that?

I’d love to visit Christchurch, Stewart Island (the most Southern part of NZ), the Southern Alps and Abel Tasman National Park of the Southern Island, Auckland, Tauranga, Aoraki/Mount Cook, and as many tiny surrounding islands as I could to see the amazing wildlife!

I would want to do a little bit of snorkeling and diving, of course!

What a world of adventure!

It would be an awesome thing to have the ability to be a full-time travel blogger and bring you fantastic posts about the world’s wildlife from all over the planet!

I hope you enjoyed this post on Animals of the World???? ??? ???? on Exotic Animal Lover! Until next time…

Orangutan May Be Extinct by 2012!

November 17, 2008 by Kimberly · 3 Comments

orangutan-pdScientific Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Hominidae
Subfamily: Ponginae
Genus: Pongo
Species: P. pygmaeus, P. abelii

As stated above, there are 2 species of orangutan. They are considered primates or apes.

They differ from other apes in that they have longer arms than other species, twice as long as their legs, and have reddish hair, instead of the characteristically black hair other apes possess.

Adult males can be up to 5′9″ tall – taller than me, and weigh up to 260 lbs…Females are typically half as heavy and reach 4′2″ tall.

Orangutans are especially known for their great intelligence.

These apes live in trees, making them an arboreal species, living in rainforests natively in Malaysia and Indonesia.

However, they are only found in Borneo and Sumatra, where everyday, they make themselves a new nest to sleep in made of branches and leaves.

They are often “hermits” of sorts, coming together mainly only to mate…But, mothers stay with their babies until they are 6 or 7 yrs old.

Only “flanged” Read more

European Eel Numbers Plummeted by 90%

European Eels are a snake-like fish that’s usually between 1-1.5 meters in length.

They partake in a 3-year long migration, originally spawning in the Saragasso sea then heading towards Europe.

By the time they enter estuaries in Europe, they are considered to be “glass eels”, I suppose because they are see-thru mostly.

Black, Yellow, Red – Watch Where You Tread

November 13, 2008 by Kimberly · 2 Comments

I will never forget the saying my University Professor made us memorize:

“Black, yellow, red – Watch where you tread!”

coralsnake

If you encounter a snake that is black, yellow and red in color, it could be poisonous or not, but the way to figure it out and quickly is to look at it’s patterning.

If the order of the colors goes black, yellow to red, in any direction, then it is certainly a poisonous snake – like a coral snake (photo above). Leave it alone and evacuate the area.

If the colors are different such as yellow, black then Read more

Coral is an Animal!

November 10, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment

That’s what I said…It’s not a plant or a fungus…

It’s a living, breathing animal, and it is precious! In fact, it is often called precious coral when it is red or pink in coloration.

Michelle Roy Designs - Crystal Evil Eye Bracelet (Coral) - JewelryThe coral that is of red or pink “skeleton” is often used in jewelry making and sculpted art. It is soft and opaque making it ideal to use as beads or cabochon-type settings.

In fact, the coral is the word used to describe the color of the coral too…

It is mostly made up of Read more
