What Bedding Is Best for Hedgehogs?

As you all may remember, I own an African Pygmy Hedgehog…It’s the 2nd one I’ve owned, in fact. When you are choosing bedding for your little critters, you need to keep a few things in mind: * Comfort * Smell * Dryness * Safety * Price I use corn cob bedding, after trying so many different kinds over the years. I found that cedar and pine shavings start to smell awful quickly! Also, they just hold the water and can harbor mold a lot easier. Plus, I didn’t feel that it was very comfortable to sleep in. Why Do I Use That? * Our hedgehog can move them around easily, [ ... ]

A Canadian Lynx as an Indoor Pet?

I just found out that one of my newest friends, Dani, had a Canadian Lynx as a pet…Not only that, it was an indoor cat! I asked her to fill us in on having a Canadian Lynx as a pet. This is her account: Firstly, his name was Snaggletooth, and I rescued him from a breeder in Iowa. I found his information online and called him to find out more about owning a lynx. I had always thought how wonderful it would be to own a big exotic cat. I went with a lynx because he would mature around 65lbs., which is equal [ ... ]

How to Bathe Your Hedgehog

In my opinion, every pet you have should be cleaned at some point in time. When I clean out the cage for my African Pygmy Hedgehog, Kokonut Kreampuff, every week, she also gets a bath. Photo left: Kokonut Kreampuff having her bath She wouldn’t voluntarily go into a small pool of water and clean herself off…She’s more concerned with trying to get under her blanket to sleep, so I have to give her a push in the right direction. Plus, it is just too cute! Hedgehog Bath Checklist: No Tears Baby Shampoo + Conditioner in 1 Washcloth Nail brush – only to be used for your hedgehog [ ... ]

Dangers of Hybridizing Lions & Tigers

I was unaware of the intense problems that occur when hybridizing lions and tigers. I have heard of ligers and tigons and even seen photos, and everything looks hunky dory, but behind the scenes we need to know what is going on with these albeit beautiful animals. Check out this video to find out to get informed: If we don’t speak up and spread the word, who will? These animals cannot speak for themselves, except through their suffering! That’s not fair and the entire thing is unnatural. Spread the word, this post and the video above to others to educate them about this issue [ ... ]

Animals Have Feelings – You Can Be Sure of That!

To all of those “experts”, who say that animals don’t have feelings…I turn my nose up at you! You really need to see this video before you make any more judgments! (My good stumble friend, kelliannie, shared this video with me, and it brought tears to my eyes!) *** A little background: I realize this video has no sound, but it is certainly not even needed! This video is of a lion named Christian. Apparently, he was rescued by these two men, and then set free back into the wild. This is a reunion 1 year after his release. *** This reunion is so touching, and truly [ ... ]

Out of Hedgehog Food at the Pet Stores

This is a first…Anytime I have ever gone for hedgie food at the store, my hedgehog’s staple food, I have never ever had a problem finding it. No word of a lie…I went to 5 pet stores in our area, and every single one of them was out of hedgehog food. A conspiracy? Maybe…LOL… Not really…but now what? Well, I went online immediately and thought I’d try a new shopping search engine for pets, ShopWiki.com/wiki/Pets, that I’ve been wanting to use for a while. It worked out very well…I figured it would since it’s a wiki site. I looked up hedgehog food and it spit [ ... ]

What in the World is a Pangolin?

I had never even heard of a Pangolin until this post was requested by one of our readers, Kenney…Thanks! Well, it’s a mammal and is often called a scaly anteater with hardened plates made of keratin that look like scales, and are razor sharp for an extra armored effect. They come from Africa and Asia. Photo left: A pangolin invading a termite mound for food They are nocturnal and use their amazing sense of smell to find insects to eat. Their tongues are elongated and also extend into their stomach so they can snag insects from tight places. They don’t have teeth and [ ... ]

Picky Hedgehog? Not Mine…

I often hear that people have pet hedgehogs that are picky with what they eat… NOT MINE! LOL My hedgie will eat just about anything I feed her…I may not actually see her eat it, but it’s gone in the morning when I check on her… I try to stay away from dairy, as it sometimes upsets her tummy, but other than that…she is a feeding champion! She loves her meal worms, either freeze dried (my fave) or in a can (not live), any brand of hedgehog food I’ve tried, all vegetables and fruits that I’ve given her, seeds, nuts, coconut… I try giving her [ ... ]
