A few months ago, I was coming home on a country road that leads to the suburbs in Niagara Falls.
It was about 3:00am, pretty cold, and what do I see? A mountain lion (also called cougars or pumas) that had just crossed the road in front of me.
It was on the left side of the road on the shoulder going into the brush. I happened to be on the phone with a friend and told them what was going on.
The big cat just looked over it’s shoulder at me as I drove past it slowly.

I was unaware of the intense problems that occur when hybridizing lions and tigers.
I have heard of ligers and tigons and even seen photos, and everything looks hunky dory, but behind the scenes we need to know what is going on with these albeit beautiful animals.

If we don’t speak up and spread the word, who will? These animals cannot speak for themselves, except through their suffering! That’s not fair and the entire thing is unnatural.

Siberian Tigers are considered to be Critically Endangered. With the Chinese and Korean populations nearly extinct, there are only about approximately 350-400 of these big cats left 10 years ago! This is not promising, especially if things don’t drastically change for this animal!
Many zoos in the world, especially in China, have been running breeding programs for the Siberian tiger subspecies. 620 Siberian tigers are scheduled to be released from China this year.

Cheetah…That just sounds fast! However, they aren’t fast enough to get away from being an endangered species.
Cheetahs are endangered throughout their home range due to loss of habitat, reduced prey and direct persecution or poaching. It is considered as vulnerable and threatened in conservation status.
They live in Africa, and there may still be some cheetahs left in the wild in Asia, although it is doubtful.
